Sehr gute Lage, nettes Personal, Frühstück ausreichend.
A very old interesting hotel.
Great character and being done up. The death announcement of Lord Nelson was issued from the hotel. Lord Nelson's death mask is in the Trafalgar room. Also some lovely old art work throughout the hotel. And they also have parking a must in Penzance. Enjoyed our stay.
We had a lovely Montol experience at the Union as usual. Yes, the hotel is old and slightly shabby in places but our room, 7 was fabulous with a super comfy bed and a view of Chapel Street which was important to us. Staff were lovely as usual and a special shout out to Jo who was so kind as I had mobility problems and works so hard. See you soon!!!
women behind bar was the most rudest bar tender ever!! My friend plugged her phone in but accidentally unplugged the wifi plug, then plugged it back in the women then stormed over to us and said not to not touch the plugs which wasn’t a problem until she began to swear whilst talking. this lead to us leaving the pub whilst she carried on arguing with us on our way out. have always been going to that pub as workers have all been lovely but this women was something else! completely uncalled for and she was definitely in that mood before we even arrived at the pub. and also was just standing behind the bar on her phone

Quick Facts About Union Hotel

The Union Hotel has both strengths and weaknesses based on the comments provided. Let's start with the positive aspects. One of the strengths mentioned is its good location, which is important for any hotel. Additionally, the rooms are described as spacious, which is a positive attribute for guests looking for comfort.
However, there are several weaknesses outlined in the comments. One of the first weaknesses is the lack of amenities in the rooms. It is mentioned that there is only one chair in the two-person room, and the same goes for the bedside lamp. This shows a lack of attention to detail and consideration for the guests' comfort.
Another weakness highlighted is the overall condition of the hotel. It is described as run-down, with examples such as worn-out upholstery on the bed and holes in it, as well as a floor that is so weak that it causes the large wardrobe to move. This suggests a lack of maintenance and investment in keeping the hotel in good shape.
The windows are also mentioned as a weakness, with guests unable to open or close them properly. This can lead to poor air circulation in the rooms, making for an uncomfortable stay. Similarly, the comment about the hotel having a musty smell indicates a lack of cleanliness and attention to detail in maintaining a pleasant atmosphere for guests.
The quality of the breakfast is also criticized in the comments. It is mentioned that the full English breakfast was swimming in oil, and the fried egg was dry. The sausage was burnt on one side while being cold on the other, indicating a lack of attention to preparing food properly. This can be seen as a weakness in providing a satisfactory dining experience for guests.
Furthermore, the price is mentioned as a weakness. One comment states that £100 is an outrageously high price for the quality of the hotel. This demonstrates that guests feel the hotel does not deliver value for the money spent.
On the positive side, several comments highlight the friendliness of the staff. This is an important strength as it creates a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere for guests. Additionally, the hotel's historical charm and character are mentioned positively. Some guests appreciate the old artwork and the fact that the hotel has historical significance, such as being the place where Lord Nelson's death announcement was issued.
One comment mentions that the hotel is being done up, indicating that renovations are taking place to improve its condition. This is a potential strength, as it shows that the hotel management is actively working towards improving the guest experience.
In summary, while the Union Hotel has a good location and spacious rooms, it has several weaknesses that need to be addressed. These include the worn-out condition of the rooms, issues with windows and air circulation, poor breakfast quality, and a lack of value for the price. However, the hotel's historical charm and friendly staff are positive aspects that can contribute to a more positive guest experience. With continued renovations and improvements, the Union Hotel has the potential to overcome its weaknesses and provide a more satisfactory stay for its guests.
