This is by far one of the nicest pub restaurants I've eaten at in a long time. I had the Moroccan lamb and it was delicious. The portions are very generous. The restaurant is clean, smart and welcoming with really polite and attentive staff.
We took advantage of the Monday evening deal, which made it extremely good value for money.
Well done to the Pomeroy, I'm impressed.
Excellent staff, atmosphere and food at a reasonable price. The vegetarian Sunday lunch is one of the best in the area.
Went for lunch with bestie for her birthday. I had paella which was lovely and she had a sirloin steak which was cooked exactly to her liking. Staff are wonderful and we had a great time. Super puddings, baked cheesecake and frangipane tart, yum
My favourite place. Never any problems. Well trained friendly staff, very tasty food, lovely decor & ambience, great outside space, proper cocktails, love it very much x
Stopped off for a spot of lunch on a sunny Thursday. Looked like the Rotary club were also having lunch as well. No problems as we were quickly seated and food ordered. The fish and chips were excellent. The burger was tasty and the onion rings sensational! Well worth a visit.
I'm was unsure about the food when I saw the menu but I was wrong. Food was very good and the service was great. Price was reasonable and the place had a great atmosphere
Visited here with friends on a Sunday to take advantage of a Sunday roast and the voucher that my friend had acquired for becoming a member of the Ego Club for 20% off for the whole table.
The restaurant was as busy as you’d perhaps expect for a Sunday lunchtime and the welcome friendly. I wasn’t quite sure of the relevance of childrens cowboy hats and neckerchiefs donned by the serving staff but guess that it was some kind of marketing master stroke - passed me by I’m afraid but that’s not unusual to be fair.
Having been ushered to our seats and our ‘Sunday a la carte’ menus issued my friend, as per instructions, sought clarification that his voucher would be valid for our meal. Here’s an extract from their welcoming email….
“If you haven't already, then let's get a date in the diary for you to use your exclusive 20% off voucher, which is available to redeem Sunday to Friday*. You can enjoy this offer from our a la carte menu, gluten free menu …….”
We were advised that yes it would, apart from the items appearing under the Sunday lunch section. This was politely queried where the waiter went for clarification and the, presumably, duty manager arrived to confirm. He quite reasonably advised that since the Sunday lunch section already was subject to a discount there wouldn’t be a further voucher discount applied.
This, as I have said, is very reasonable and we understood and accepted the rationale. What wasn’t quite as acceptable was my point that the menu we were handed was entitled ‘Sunday a la carte menu’ and so wasn’t it also reasonable to expect that everything in that menu was, as per the marketing verbiage, included in the ‘deal’? We thought that it was and I suggested that maybe they should be a little more specific, a point which seemed to go way over the head of the duty manager - shame really, it would’ve been nice to have our view at least acknowledged. Maybe, just change the title of the menu we were handed?
Then, as regards the Dessert menu, to compound the initial confusion,…..’anything’ on the menu…..but not the mini dessert with coffee!!!
Anyway, we weren’t going to let this minor concern spoil our enjoyment and it didn't.
The consensus was that the food was fine overall although the calamari that I had as a starter was very thin and quite dry and my main course of ‘pink’ roast beef whilst plentiful, was not that pink and a little on the chewy side, but this may just have been my one. Additionally, the presentation (although, not usually high on my list of importance) of my main course was more in the style of Jenga with the food piled in a heap on the plate, meat on top and any veg somewhere below all covered in gravy. Of course it all goes down the same way but a little care would’ve been good.
All in all, it was an enjoyable occasion, but that was more due to the company rather than the food in my opinion. We could have done without the menu/offer confusion at the start.
Sadly, The Pomeroy, for me, is a standard run of the mill restaurant that certainly has a market, it’s just not for me these days I’m afraid.
Fantastic menu and great service! What more can you ask from a restaurant? It's a regular venue for us to meet with friends here. Everything on the menu is cooked well and a great wine list too!
