Strange little pub, but it does feel very cliquey, in a non threatening way. Hardly room for the proverbial swinging cat, but this only adds to the quirkiness. VERY well priced drinks and well kept cask ales. Super friendly young barmaid, who makes you feel at ease and welcome.
They have a couple of tables and chairs outside on the side footpath, so although not exactly prime location, you do get fresh air and the occasional passer by
Not the greatest pub in the World, but if you are looking for that long gone, traditional, local ale house...you have probably found it here. Worth checking out if you are passing.
Lovely little pub with a friendly vibe and an excellent range of well served, very keenly priced beers; very welcome on a Monday lunchtime. Recommended.
Really nice friendly local pub. The bar maid was excellent. If you like real ales this is the place to go, they allow tasters if unsure. Prices are also very good. FYI i am not a real ale drinker but i was still looked after
Small pub, friendly staff and locals. Nice selection of cask beer and bottles. Good atmosphere and dog friendly.
Perfect, friendly local pub, well kept beers and ciders, good selection of wine, great prices love it
Great boozer full of locals and tourists alike. Stones throw from the Harvey's brewery so rude not to. We always have a pint in here whenever we visit Lewes
Run by halfwits.
How long does it take to serve a pint?
About 30 mins in here. Worst service I’ve ever witnessed. Avoid!
Lovely experience
friendly staff and clients and a nice selection of tap beers

Quick Facts About Gardeners Arms

Gardeners Arms has a number of strengths that make it an appealing pub to visit. One of the notable strengths is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Multiple comments mention the friendly staff and locals, creating a warm and inviting environment. This is further reinforced by the super friendly young barmaid who makes patrons feel at ease and welcome. The friendly vibe adds to the overall experience and makes Gardeners Arms a popular choice for locals and tourists alike.
Another strength of Gardeners Arms is the well-priced drinks. Several comments mention that the drinks are very keenly priced, making it an affordable option for customers. This is particularly appealing to those who enjoy real ales, as Gardeners Arms is known for having a good selection of well-served beers at reasonable prices. Additionally, they allow tasters if unsure, which caters to customers who may not be regular real ale drinkers but still want to explore and try new things.
The pub's commitment to maintaining well-kept cask ales is also seen as a strength. Comments praising the range of beers and ciders and emphasizing the importance of well-kept drinks reflect positively on Gardeners Arms. This appeals to those who appreciate quality and enjoy a well-preserved pint of beer or cider.
Furthermore, the quirkiness and traditional feel of Gardeners Arms are viewed as strengths by some customers. The comment that describes it as a "strange little pub" but also mentions the quirkiness adds to the pub's charm and uniqueness. The small size of the pub is also considered part of its charm and adds to the traditional, local ale house atmosphere that some customers are seeking. The fact that it feels cliquey, but in a non-threatening way, suggests a sense of community and familiarity among the regular patrons.
In terms of weaknesses, one comment criticizes the speed of service, describing it as the worst they have ever witnessed. This suggests that the pub may struggle with providing prompt service, which could be frustrating for customers, particularly during busy periods. However, it is worth noting that this negative comment is an outlier among the overwhelmingly positive feedback about the pub and its staff.
Additionally, the limited space in the pub is mentioned in one comment as a weakness. The proverbial "swinging cat" reference implies that the pub can get crowded and may not have sufficient seating for all patrons. While this may add to the quirkiness and character of the pub for some, it could be seen as a disadvantage for others who prefer more spacious and comfortable drinking environments.
It's important to consider the overall sentiment and consensus among the comments, which overwhelmingly emphasize the positive aspects of Gardeners Arms. The strengths of the friendly atmosphere, well-priced drinks, well-kept cask ales, and the traditional, local ale house vibe, are highlighted by multiple customers. These strengths make Gardeners Arms a popular choice, particularly for those looking for an authentic and welcoming pub experience.
