Zen Noodle Bar located in the heart of Chelmsford town has a relaxed atmosphere in a restaurant that is clean and sleek. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and there was a busy trade coming through the door considering it was lunchtime and drizzly.

The restaurant operates a good lunchtime deal with two dishes for £9.95. I have been to many restaurants before that offer such deals and most of the time the deal is restrictive or the portion sizes are small - not here. Despite the reasonable price, I found the dish sizes to be what I would consider a full-size meal. I ordered the following two meals:

Starter/Side dish

Shredded chilli chicken

The coating is clean and crisp with a mix of spices that are delicious. The portion size is generous and tasted as though it was cooked from scratch. All ingredients were fresh and with a lovely selection of red and green chillies I found the presentation to be pleasing to the eye and satisfied that chilli kick I was craving.

Main dish

Thai Green Curry

The rice was very good, delicate and soft and fluffy and dry. The sauce was flavoursome with hints of spice but not overpowering, allowing a taste experience as each one bounces over the tastebuds. The chicken was fresh and not frozen or reformed chicken. It leaves a delicious aftertaste and a satisfying flavour.

Overall, I can highly recommend the restaurant. The venue is a good size for any party, and scanning the menu everything seems reasonably priced with a decent and varied selection of dishes.

Very clean place to eat, food is served quickly and tastes great. Staff are friendly and courteous. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !! ( try their Smokey Shredded Chicken)

Excellent quality, very reasonably priced. Right next to the cathedral, worth stopping here if you're a tourist like us. I had 8 king prawns in my spicy noodle soup, very unusual to get so many prawns for £9.

I go there every time (almost) that I go to Chelmsford. The quality of the food has remained very high, the staff are friendly, the prices are always reasonable. My favourite is the seafood laksa, and crispy spiced squid, but I suspect that if you like Chinese/Singaporean/Malaysian cuisine in general, you will not be disappointed. Lunch at £10 for two courses is good value.

Excellent venue. Spacious, doesn't get too busy. In the heart of the town centre with good access. I can't do the quality of food or service proper justice with this review - experience it for yourself.

Good food, including a decent vegetarian selection. The price of a lunch for two, including coffee afterwards was surprisingly cheap. Nice interior as well. Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling are a tad low if you're on the taller side.
