Aok
gotta luv this spot..right in the heart of Sac Metro is this sprawling nature reserve. All kinds of hiking along the big rocked shoreline or u can trudge the trails thru THICK foliage.
uh hmm....how to put this to y'all?
the river is a good 30' below the roads; a FUN bike ride DOWN, BUT
me & my MTB could just barely make that ascent back up & i ride 100 miles of hills/month around Folsom & Natoma Lakes!! ????????????????
the bridge has an EXTREMELY SAFE set of bike/ped paths across
so i DEFÌNATELY recommend it to y'all! ENJOY

This is the American River access from la Riviera drive and the Watt bridge. There is a ton of parking an access points to the river and there are facilities here as well.
The boat ramp is all the way down through the parking lot to the left as of July the water level has gotten so low however you cannot use the boat ramp.
There are a ton of walking trails and access to the river along them and the bike trail it goes through the park.
The water is pristine and the park is normally free of trash so please try to keep it that way!
Lovely place clear water and a safe are for kids and adults to enjoy the rivers stream just make sure to have someone scout ahead to make sure it's safe and yes homeless are problem but usually they stay away from you and your car
River looks close to normal level now. Wonderful sunny day for a walk. Glad to see the restroom is still ok too
Been here in Sacramento for over 50 years and I can't think of one thing there isn't to like about the American River. Doesn't matter if it's right here in Sacramento or up at the forks in Auburn. If you live here in Sacramento and don't take advantage of the American River you're missing out.
Too many homeless encampments, so just stick to the paved trails. Lots of parking, good for dogs, but walk in groups. Don't go alone
Beautiful Place well kept path. However I wouldn't be out here around dusk as there's homeless people sleeping by the river as would be expected.

Quick Facts About Watt Avenue River Access

Strengths:
1. Beautiful Scenery: The Watt Avenue River Access place offers a stunning natural environment with sprawling nature reserves, hiking trails, and a clear river. The water is pristine and the park is normally free of trash, making it a visually appealing location.
2. Accessible Location: Located in the heart of Sacramento Metro, this river access place is easily accessible for both locals and tourists. It is conveniently situated near the Watt bridge, offering safe bike and pedestrian paths across.
3. Variety of Activities: The park provides various activities for visitors to enjoy, including hiking along the shoreline, exploring the trails through thick foliage, and biking on the designated paths. There is also a boat ramp available, although its usability may be affected by low water levels.
4. Facilities and Amenities: The park offers amenities such as parking, restrooms, and a transaction machine for easy payment of entrance fees. The presence of parking spaces ensures convenience for visitors, and the availability of facilities adds to the overall experience.
5. Safety Measures: The park enforces several rules to ensure the safety of visitors, such as requiring dogs to be on a leash, prohibiting bikes on trails, and banning camping. These measures contribute to creating a safe environment for everyone.
Weaknesses:
1. Challenging Terrain: One visitor mentioned the difficulty of ascending the bike ride back up from the 30-foot lower river level to the roads. This may pose a challenge for individuals with less biking experience or fitness levels. It could limit the accessibility of the park to some visitors.
2. Homeless Presence: Some visitors have expressed concern about the presence of homeless encampments near the river. While it was mentioned that homeless individuals usually stay away from visitors and their cars, it may still be a discomfort for some people, particularly if they are alone or around dusk.
3. Limited Boat Ramp Access: Due to low water levels observed in July, access to the boat ramp has been restricted. This may disappoint boating enthusiasts who visit the park specifically to launch their watercraft. It is advisable for visitors to check the current water levels before planning activities involving boat usage.
4. Entrance Fees: The park charges entrance fees based on the type of vehicle or watercraft, ranging from $5 to $20. While it is understandable that fees are necessary for the maintenance of the park, some visitors may find the charges relatively high, especially for those with larger vehicles or multiple small watercraft.
5. Restrictive Rules: Some visitors mentioned the restrictions imposed within the park, such as not allowing biking on trails or the use of glass bottles. While these rules are in place for safety and preservation purposes, they may limit certain recreational activities or preferences of visitors.
Overall, the Watt Avenue River Access place offers a beautiful and accessible natural environment with a range of activities for visitors to enjoy. However, there are limitations such as challenges in terrain, the presence of homeless individuals, restricted boat ramp access, entrance fees, and restrictive rules that may affect the overall experience for some visitors.
