Sehr leckeres Eis und eine süße Einrichtung!
The Sugar Bowl is like stepping back in time to the nostalgic 1950’s! I love the original decorating of pink chairs and booths! And, having a sweet tooth, I loved that 75% of the menu is desserts! Our waiter took our order quickly and we received our food very quickly. I loved my sundae and everyone in my party loved their sandwiches and sundaes/floats!
Attached to the Sugar Bowl is an old fashioned arcade where families were playing games.
I would recommend going to the Sugar Bowl if you are in the Old Scottsdale area for sure—don’t miss this gem! It’s like definitely a must see (and taste)!
Great place for a sweet treat. Friendly staff and a clean place overall. Cute nostalgic styling. They have every kind of banana split you can think of OR you can create your own if you like. It reminds me of a old soda shop. Service was fast and attentive. I would definitely eat here again. ????
This is such an iconic ice cream parlor. They serve regular food but the ice cream treats are where it’s at. Going back almost 70 years and featured in the Family Circus cartoons this reminds you of an authentic ice cream parlor because it is. You can order on the menu or create your own. The staff is eager to give specialty recommendations. Fantastic spot to get away from the heat!
It’s truly a shame that this adorable restaurant has such low quality food. The nut bread was partially frozen and the pineapple cream cheese filling was very bland. I could not taste the pineapple at all. The tea sandwich plate was disappointing. The three sandwiches were made on regular bread that mad been cut into quarters. The fillings were dry, bland and flavorless. A tea sandwich should be a tasty little morsel on a special bread. The ice cream and toppings were nothing special either. The server was not great either. On the plus side, this pink restaurant has such a cute ambiance. If you only care about ambiance and don’t care about being served sub par food, this place is for you! Bathroom was not cared for and had peeling wall paper. This restaurant must be surviving on tourist traffic. The outside is painted bubblegum pink and it very noticeable, so it probably draws tourists. Overall, very very disappointing.
This is much more than an old fashioned ice cream shop!
My friend recommended the Sugar Bowl for lunch since we were in Old Town Scottsdale. She's been coming here since her children were little and she raved about the ice cream. Hmmm... But I wanted lunch!
The Sugar Bowl does not disappoint! They have very hearty portions and delicious food. Looking on the menu we found burgers and sandwiches, salads and potato salad. No fries. But, even better, homemade potato chips!
On the table is a daily special card. Today's special (for $10.50) was a spinach and bacon quiche with fruit. Sounded promising and the price was right. This was a more-than-generous sized slice of quiche covered with thick layer of melted cheddar and at least a cup of mixed melons and grapes. Surprise! It came with dessert: a two-layer small portion of banana-nut bread, spread with a cream cheese frosting between. It was a delicious and very satisfying lunch.
This is a very family-friendly place -- there's even a separate game room for kids.
I was so full I had to take the banana bread home!
The icecream tastes really good and their banana sundae is delicious. I customized it with cashew toppings which went well.
Family friendly and a great place for kids as they have got a separate game room for them.
Amazing, historical family-owned joint. You can basically order any mixture of ice cream sundae, malt, shake, etc you could imagine.
The decor and ambiance is adorable. I can't wait to take my kids back. The menu even has Family Circus cartoons with the Sugar Bowl in them. I love the glass art from "Laughing Glass" around the inside too!

Quick Facts About Sugar Bowl

Sugar Bowl is a nostalgic 1950's ice cream parlor that offers a wide variety of desserts and a cute, nostalgic ambiance. The strengths of Sugar Bowl include its delicious ice cream, friendly staff, fast service, and family-friendly atmosphere. The weaknesses include some inconsistencies in food quality, bland sandwiches, and outdated bathroom conditions.
One of the main strengths of Sugar Bowl is the quality and taste of its ice cream. Customers rave about the deliciousness of the ice cream and the variety of flavors available. Many visitors particularly enjoy the banana sundae, which can be customized with different toppings. The ice cream treats are considered the highlight of the menu and are highly recommended.
The friendly staff and fast service are also strengths of Sugar Bowl. Customers appreciate the attentive and efficient service provided by the waitstaff. The cute, nostalgic ambiance of Sugar Bowl is another strength that draws customers in. The pink chairs and booths, along with the old-fashioned arcade, provide a unique and nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the 1950s. Customers enjoy the vintage soda shop feel and find it adds to the overall experience of visiting Sugar Bowl.
Additionally, Sugar Bowl is praised for being a family-friendly establishment. The separate game room for kids is seen as a great feature, allowing families to enjoy their meals while also keeping children entertained. The ice cream parlor atmosphere appeals to children and makes it a great place for a family outing.
However, there are some weaknesses to consider when visiting Sugar Bowl. Some customers have noted inconsistencies in the food quality. For example, one customer mentioned that the nut bread was partially frozen and the pineapple cream cheese filling was bland. Another customer found the sandwiches to be dry, bland, and flavorless. These inconsistencies in food quality can be off-putting to some customers who expect a higher standard of taste and flavor.
Another weakness mentioned by a customer is the outdated condition of the bathroom. The peeling wallpaper is seen as a sign of neglect and a lack of attention to cleanliness. This can be discouraging for customers who value cleanliness and expect a well-maintained facility.
Furthermore, although the ambiance of Sugar Bowl is praised, some customers find the food to be subpar compared to the cute decor. This disconnect between the ambiance and the quality of the food can be disappointing for customers who prioritize a satisfying culinary experience.
In conclusion, Sugar Bowl is a nostalgic 1950's ice cream parlor with strengths such as delicious ice cream, friendly staff, fast service, and a family-friendly atmosphere.
