Fish snd chips itself is very good and tasty and decent portion although have had bigger.
The place is quite dirty and tired, tables left uncleared for ages.
Food also took considerable amount of time to arrive and restaurant was very quiet. However that does mean fish was cooked fresh. Curry sauce and sides all cheap and good.
I came here from London thinking I won't find anything to my liking. I got the king size burger. And it was really good and the amazing thing it was halal. Me and my friends were struggling to find a good store after we went to adventure Island. The cod fish or from what my friends were saying was pretty good but was anticipating a bit more flavour. The customer service was really good. I came here 10 days ago around the 2nd of July.
If you want good, decent food and a good price this is your place, plus its Halal too, staff were rushed off their feet but the quality of the food and speed wasn't compromised its only like a mile away from the sea front in the town centre, plus plenty of parking few minutes away from the restaurant, toilets were very clean too, there is seating downstairs and upstairs went during the busy lunch hour and still plenty of seating, staff are nice and friendly and helpful too.
They microwave my burger bun so it was extra floppy and chewey...burger patty was deep fried. Chips were ok. This place is far below the quality of any other in Southend. In addition to the poor food, the staff spent my whole stay loudly arguing. I ate it, but it wasn't good and I won't be back.
Went here today in the middle of heavy rain. I was swiftly handed a tissue to clean my glasses as soon as I arrived and the owner was all smiles for everyone (other customers, as well as just me) with very attentive, warm, welcoming and friendly customer service. Made for a very comfortable dining experience. If I lived locally I would come back just for this reason.
My fish and chips were just the right size and surprisingly served on a beautiful floral tray…of course with a brilliant smile.
The batter of the fish was very airy and light.
Recommended.
The Royal Fish & Chip shop...
The shop itself was not as clean as it could have been with food left on the table next to us and not been cleaned up.
The restroom upstairs tap was also none functioning.
And someone (staff) started smoking... something while were were sat inside eating... Very unprofessional.
Onto the food:
The chips had a very starchy/potatoey texture. Almost like mogo chips if you have ever had them before but not as good.
The Fish was okay, very light batter and practically no taste.
We also tired the slush which tasted very watered down and lacking any taste.
The worst part was the saveloy which may not have been prepared correctly as it went through my friend who had it and needed the restroom within a few minutes.
Based on this experience, it is hard to recommend this place whilst there are better places just a short walk away which are cheaper and offer a cleaner place to eat and arguably better quality ingredients.
One of the two owners the older guy is very unpleasant. The younger owner is lovely and very friendly with great customer service.
We was regular customers there as food is reasonably priced until one of my friends got accused of taking the tip money by the older owner.
Nice family Fish and chip joint. Had a very nice luch time snack. They are very friendly and nice staff had plenty of space to eat in as have a secondary seating area upstairs. They are competitively price for the coastal area but they offer OAP discounts for customers. Great tasting fresh fish excellent chips. Cant go wrong if you are in the mood for Fish and Chips will not be dissappointed.
