What a hidden gem! We were slightly worried about going as there is no website/menu online. We arrived at what seemed like a little convenience store. You go into the convenience store and walk through to the restaurant entrance at the back. It’s a beautiful, clean, little spot. Our host was very welcoming and helped us set a menu that was absolutely delicious. The seafood was fresh, and the menu variety was impressive. The photos don’t do it justice. The price was very reasonable as well. Will definitely be returning!!
This Korean and Japanese restaurant is hidden at the back of the Seoul Plaza 2 shop by New Malden Fountain Roundabout, behind a sliding door. They serve Korean and Japanese food, though we weren't able to have sushi because the sushi chef wasn't there yet (so I assume a different chef for Korean food and different for Japanese food).
Delicious well-seasoned food, good portions and very nice peaceful place. We called their mobile number to reserve a table for Sunday lunchtime but when we arrived it was very quiet with only one other table eating there. They do takeaways but don't have any printed takeaway menus, it's just whatever you like from the "full" eat-in menu. Will definitely be back!
Went there, we ordered spicy tofu soup and beef yakisoba, the young guy brought us a bowl of rice with the soup, we thought it came with the soup, then he brought us a seafood pancake which we didn't order, so we told him it's probably for the other table. Later on when we asked for the bill, we found out they are charging us for the rice, we said we didn't order that, we thought it came with the soup just like all other Korean restaurants which we went nearby. The owner (who took our order) then came, we thought he'll apologise and take it off the bill, as he should know we didn't order the rice, it was obviously his staff's mistake, but no, he didn't care, he just said, we touched it, so we had to pay for it, and other restaurants increased the price by including the rice but he didn't (that has nothing to do with us...). In the end we didn't wanna argue so we paid, but basically we had to pay for their mistake, that's a very bad customer service!!! The food is not better than other restaurants on the high street, so I'll never ever go back.
By far one of my favourite places to go in New Malden! This secret restaurant is tucked away at the back of a Seoul Plaza convenience store hidden from the main street and specialises in Korean and Japanese cuisine.
Price has always been pretty affordable, fairly standard in comparison to the other small Korean restaurants on the High Street but absolutely worth it. Their sushi and sashimi selection is no joke and the ramen soup noodle bowls are massive. One of my favourite starters has got to be the takoyaki, not many places outside of central do them!
There are also private rooms at the back that can fit up to 6 or 7 people that you can call to book in advance. The owner and staff are lovely and very friendly, I highly recommend visiting - but be warned, it's very easy to become a regular here! ???? I will be back soon!
An absolute hidden gem in the city, it’s hidden behind the Korean convenience shop. The food were absolutely amazing and the prices were relatively cheaper than usual Korean restaurants ????
Hidden gem in the back of a traditional grocery store in a bust stop. Just walk past the freezer cabinets and you will see the small door. Authentic throughout. Freshly prepared and plentiful portions, worth a visit.
Its hidden behind the supermarket/convenient store… so you need to enter the store first and find the restaurant entrance inside the store
We went for lunch, it was empty…. Food was good but a litttle bit too salty…
Amazing food and great ambience in a hidden restaurant. Cost seemed high initially but made up by having great quality and large portion sizes. Personal favourites were the Takoyaki and the Spicy Pork but everything else was also fantastic.
Would definitely go here again!

Quick Facts About KumKangKorean Restaurant

KumKangKorean Restaurant has several strengths highlighted in the comments. Firstly, it is described as a hidden gem, which suggests that it is not well-known or easily accessible. This exclusivity can make it more appealing to customers who enjoy discovering new places.
The restaurant is also praised for its cleanliness and beautiful ambiance. This indicates that the owners and staff take pride in maintaining a pleasant dining environment for customers. The fact that it is a peaceful place further adds to the overall positive experience.
The menu variety and quality of food is another strength of KumKangKorean Restaurant. Customers mention that the seafood is fresh and that the food is well-seasoned and delicious. The portion sizes are also described as generous, which provides good value for money. The inclusion of both Korean and Japanese cuisine adds to the overall appeal and gives customers more options to choose from.
The price is another strength mentioned in the comments. Customers describe it as reasonable and affordable compared to other Korean restaurants on the high street. This can make the restaurant more accessible to a wider range of customers.
The staff and service at KumKangKorean Restaurant are also praised. The host is described as welcoming and helpful in setting the menu. The owner and staff are said to be friendly and lovely, providing a positive customer experience.
Furthermore, KumKangKorean Restaurant offers private rooms that can be booked in advance, accommodating larger groups. This allows for a more intimate dining experience for those who prefer privacy or are celebrating special occasions.
Despite these strengths, there are some weaknesses mentioned in the comments. One customer mentions that there is no website or online menu, which can make it difficult for potential customers to gather information before visiting.
Another customer mentions an issue with the billing process and customer service. They were charged for an item they did not order, and the owner did not take responsibility for the mistake. This reflects poorly on the customer service and could potentially discourage customers from returning.
Finally, one customer found the food to be too salty. While this is subjective and may not be a complaint for all customers, it is worth noting as it suggests inconsistency in the quality of food preparation.
In conclusion, KumKangKorean Restaurant has several strengths including its hidden and exclusive location, clean and beautiful ambiance, variety and quality of food, reasonable prices, friendly staff, and the availability of private rooms. However, it also has weaknesses such as the lack of online presence and menu, a billing issue and lackluster customer service, and inconsistent food quality. Overall, it appears to be a restaurant with potential, but improvements could be made to ensure a consistently positive customer experience.
