Quick Facts About Abyssinia

Abyssinia place, based on the comments provided, has several strengths that make it a popular choice for trying Ethiopian cuisine. Firstly, many customers praise the great experience they had while dining there, highlighting the fantastic food and relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant is also commended for its helpful staff who make customers feel at home. Additionally, the fact that customers can use their hands to eat adds to the authentic experience of Ethiopian cuisine. The restaurant also offers both vegetarian and meat options, ensuring that it caters to a variety of dietary preferences.
Another strength mentioned by a customer is the ability to order sharing platters, which works best for larger groups. This encourages a communal dining experience and allows customers to try a variety of dishes. The food is described as authentic, delicious, and well-cooked, with some dishes being spicy and others not. Customers also appreciate that the servings are generous enough to make them feel full without feeling uncomfortable afterwards. The recommendation to try the Asmara beer suggests that the restaurant also offers a good selection of beverages to complement the food.
It is worth noting that the restaurant only accepts cash, which can be seen as a potential weakness. In today's predominantly cashless society, this may inconvenience some customers who prefer to pay with card or other electronic payment methods.
The vegetarian platter is praised for having delicious dishes, with the lentils being highlighted as particularly tasty. This suggests that Abyssinia place not only caters well to meat-eaters but also provides excellent vegetarian options. Additionally, the friendly vibes and great beer contribute to the overall positive dining experience that customers have at the restaurant.
However, there are a few weaknesses mentioned in the comments. One customer complains that the portion size of a lamb dish they ordered was too small, leaving them unsatisfied. The use of small tubs for main courses is criticized, as it makes the portions seem inadequate. This feedback is important as it highlights a potential area for improvement in terms of portion sizes.
Another comment describes a negative experience related to the service. Despite the delicious food, the customer felt that the service was awful. They mention that the staff forgot to bring drinks, ignored requests for condiments, and took a long time to clear the table. This lack of attentiveness and forgetfulness is seen as unprofessional and may discourage customers from returning. The experience of the couple who tried to order their food through the app but were reprimanded and made to feel uncomfortable further contributes to the negative perception of the restaurant's service.
One comment mentions a disturbing incident of people having an argument about plastering with a local drug addict inside the restaurant, leading to a smokey and uncomfortable environment. This unsettling atmosphere made the customers want to leave before even getting their dinner. While this may be an isolated incident, it is nevertheless a weakness as it impacted the dining experience.
However, despite these weaknesses, the overall consensus from the comments is that Abyssinia place offers great food and an authentic dining experience. The strengths, such as the delicious cuisine, friendly staff, and relaxed atmosphere, outweigh the weaknesses. Improvements in areas such as portion sizes and service could enhance the overall experience and further establish the restaurant as a top choice for Ethiopian cuisine.

Great experience trying Ethiopian cuisine. Works best if you order sharing platters with a larger group. Would definitely recommend both veg and meat options. We used our hands to eat. Staff was helpful and made us feel at home.
So glad to be able to give this 5⭐, it's everything I was hoping for and more. Super relaxed atmosphere with beautiful fitting music. Helpful staff doing their best to be accommodating. Food, I think was authentic and just fantastic, some spicy dishes some not.
If you are not familiar with Ethiopian food, be prepared to share. Meat dishes will often contain bones but it is so well cooked the meat will just fall off. But what I always love is you can really eat a lot and feel full, but not uncomfortable and bloated.
Absolutely try the Asmara beer!
Cash only.
Every dish was delicious on the vegetarian platter. The lentils were especially tasty. Great beer and friendly vibes, can’t wait to return!
Not the greatest picture, but was at work!. What you can see was jusy shy of £19 with delivery. I ordered Gomen besiga, this lamb dish was tasty, but the portion size is too small, came in the tubs that are about 1.5 inches tall (usually used for sides or salads?) Rustic food served some on the bone with Gristle, so if your sensitive, don't order it. This is a good snapshot into another countries cuisine. Salad was tasty and the bread a good new experience. However, stingy child size main portion, means I will not order again.
Every time i come here I am greeted and served with the friendliest attitudes. The food is fast, hot and delicious and i’m not even vegan whatsoever, I enjoy having plant based meals every so often to try new things, and do something better for the environment. If you’re skeptical about plant based meat/burgers/food in general, give this place a shot. You won’t be disappointed!
We had a Sunday roast which was delicious, I couldn’t have faulted the food but the service was awful. We ordered wine and a roast. The food ordered before the wine, we had to remind the staff that we were waiting on the drinks. We then asked for some condiments to go with the roast, we never received these and again had to ask staff again… the waitress Abbey then brought them over and said ‘ohh I forgot’. We were sat for over 20 minutes with our empty plates in front of us, staff would look but didn’t clear the table. They were not attentive.
There was also a couple sat next to us who ordered there food on the app (which it said you could on the menu)… the waitress then came over and said that they shouldn’t have ordered on the app and it was table service only. The couple then said to us that they felt like they had been ‘told off’. It was very unprofessional.
Sunday roast was amazing but wouldn’t return due to service.
Food was really tasty but the people in there were having some crazy row about plastering with the local smack head.
It was also really smokey. Made us want to leave before dinner arrived. Never eaten and left so fast in my life.
Will order delivery next time.
