**UPDATE June 2021**
Sadly, Pete the proprietor passed away recently. A top bloke! both he and the Wayfarers will be sorely missed. At the time of writing there is no information as to the future of the cafe. RIP Mate.
My original review
One of the longest running roadside Cafes in Newport . top grub (steak pie with suet pastry is to die for!) Curry special on Fridays. Superb breakfasts / brunches too. Highly recommended.
Not very good breakfast. Greesy I felt sick in my stomach. The place is stinking rotten.. Wish I had looked around properly before eating. There was washing powder put on saltfloor to stop the chef from sliping. The chef has a lovely charictor about him. I think it needs to be revisited by inspectors. If it was cleaned up it be a lovely place.
Wanted a bacon sandwich, but they didn't have any bacon or mushrooms, so we settled for a sausage sandwich and coffee. We sat down and when we looked around the overall condition of the place was disgusting. How they can sell food in those conditions. The council should close them down.Absolutely disgusting!!
I have been here several times and never been disappointed with the food. From a full cooked breakfast to a Christmas dinner everything has been how it should be.
The staff and owner go that extra mile to make you feel welcome.
A proper full breakfast is always available! It's a decent cafe with no
pretentiousness you find in some places! Beats wetherspoons breakfast attempts hands down! As for "rats droppings in food" as mentioned lower down the reviews......for gods sake!? Get real!!! I have known this of this cafe for 20+ years & never had a bad meal there! Testement in itself really! If you want whistles, bells & folded napkins with flowers on tables, go into town. If you want a nice cooked breakfast, go to the wafes!
People posting these great reviews must have seriously low standards and strong stomach's but then this is newport. Most unhygienic cafe I've ever been in with severe damp on the walls, grease caked tiles on the walls and as for the floor I watched a man do the can can whilst trying to get his table. The food was dripping with grease and not much flavour other than that. Felt sick after eating what food I had. Would only ever recommend the establishment to the English rugby team, other than that stay clear. #enviromentalhealth #shutupshop #rough
Excellent cafe with food to lift your mood! Always a warm welcome and makes a great change to the fake decor/food that is offered in many places. Great value and honest nosh!!
Great place to go for a full breakfast very reasonably priced good food and friendly staff.

Quick Facts About The Wayfarers Cafe

The Wayfarers Cafe appears to have a mix of positive and negative comments, making it necessary to carefully consider the strengths and weaknesses of the establishment.
Starting with the strengths, it is evident that the cafe has a devoted customer base, as one reviewer mentioned being a regular and never being disappointed with the food. This indicates a consistent quality of meals and suggests that the cafe has a reliable and well-executed menu. The positive remarks about the steak pie with suet pastry and the curry special on Fridays also highlight the cafe's ability to offer unique and delicious options. Additionally, the mention of a warm welcome and friendly staff speaks highly of the customer service aspect, indicating that the staff and owner go the extra mile to make customers feel welcomed. The existence of a loyal customer base and the positive feedback on the food quality and customer service are significant strengths for any restaurant.
Furthermore, the cafe is known for its proper full breakfast, which one reviewer emphasized. This suggests that they have a specific specialty that they excel at, catering to customers who value a traditional and well-prepared breakfast. This strength is further enhanced by the comparison made to other establishments like Wetherspoons, implying that the Wayfarers Cafe exceeds the breakfast offerings of well-known chains.
On the other hand, the weaknesses of the cafe are apparent in several complaints. One recurring issue is the cleanliness and overall condition of the place. Multiple reviewers commented on the unhygienic environment, with mentions of severe damp on the walls and grease-caked tiles. One reviewer even observed a man dancing to avoid slipping on the floor. These comments indicate a lack of cleanliness and maintenance, creating a negative impression of the establishment. The concerns about hygiene are serious, with one reviewer suggesting that the council should close the cafe down.
In addition, a few reviewers criticized the breakfast, describing it as greasy and lacking flavor. While some positive remarks were made about the food, the negative comments about a bad breakfast experience cannot be overlooked. It suggests inconsistency in the kitchen and raises doubts about the overall quality of the meals.
Another weakness mentioned is the absence of certain ingredients, such as bacon and mushrooms, for a bacon sandwich. This indicates a potential issue with inventory management and could be a letdown for customers who have specific cravings or expectations.
Lastly, the recent passing of the proprietor, Pete, as mentioned in one review, is a significant challenge for the future of the cafe. It is uncertain how the cafe will continue without his presence, which introduces an element of uncertainty for potential customers. The loss of a beloved proprietor can affect the overall atmosphere and perception of the establishment, potentially impacting its strengths in customer loyalty and satisfaction.
In conclusion, The Wayfarers Cafe has a number of strengths, such as a loyal customer base, positive feedback on food quality and customer service, and a reputation for a proper full breakfast. However, the weaknesses, including concerns about cleanliness and hygiene, inconsistent food quality, and the recent loss of the proprietor, pose significant challenges for the establishment. It is crucial for the cafe to address these weaknesses to maintain and improve its standing in the community.
