Very disappointed. Been here many times for lunch. Today we sat in the garden and ordered our lunch. Normally have a long wait for food, but it's worth it. Today we waited 45 minutes and our dinners were served polystyrene containers and wooden knives & forks. Not what you expect when eating in a pub, not environmental friendly. If I wanted a take away I would have gone to the chippy.

The worst steak I have ever had..... literally every bite was crunchy where it had so much Grissel..
Only 1 veggie option (which I think is against the law) and they cook all deep fried food in beef fat so veggies/ vegans can't even have chips!
Would give zero but added 1 star because We felt sorry for the single barman who had to table serve, take orders and run the pub all by himself.
I went to Pakefield beach for a walk and on the way in I saw the Trowel and Hammer, Lowestoft's oldest pub, so I knew I had to pop in. The man behind the bar was very friendly and the pub itself had a very welcoming feel. I only had a diet coke because I hadnt planned to eat out that day. I was the only person in there when I was there at around 12:30. I wish I lived closer because I would love this place to be my local pub.
Popped in for a drink Friday afternoon and it was dead, only two people in there . Very expensive drink wise (something that would put me of visiting again). Clean and tidy inside, again friendly staff. Could not comment on there food as we only drank there . OK they had a choice of two real ales which was better then nothing .
Friendly historic pub /restaurant, cozy log burners to enjoy in the winter months.Good selection of food and drink available. Large beer garden to the rear of the property, possibly the biggest in and around lowestoft
I think it's under new management.??????
Food divine.
Always hot!! As ever.
But wow....everyone is so happy.
The staff are so lovely.

A really lovely pub visit on Thursday evening for food. Although it wasn't accessible ( we had 2 wheelchair users with us) we were allowed to eat outside. The staff member behind the bar was brilliant, friendly, bubbly and smiled, which makes a huge difference these days and lovely to see. We will be back on our next visit. Thanks guys, spot on!
Nice friendly pub..very warm and cosy.. kids outdoor play area and close to the beach
