Great little pub - proper old school. Great selection of beers, outdoor beer garden, cosy indoor seating.
On colder days there's always a fire on the go. Definitely recommended
The landlord is such a character. Like me he also enjoys a nice clean pint of Ale/beer. This you will get at the pub
The Eight Bells (formerly the Sawyers Arms) is a lovely old fashioned, quiet pub in Church Street,Alton opposite St Lawrence's Church. It us open 12-2pm and 5-11pm.
You go straight in from the street with no parking. But there is a public car park nearby. With the 8 Bells on your left take the next turning left into a housing estate, then turn right into the car park. It's just a short walk from the pub.
There is a reasonable size outside area with picnic benches.
The staff are friendly and welcoming.
Dogs are welcome.
Real ale and local ale are available.
There are newspapers available to read while sitting near the real fire.
I'm not sure if it serves food. I was there for refreshments after a funeral and we had sandwiches.
But if you want a good, quiet pub which serves excellent beer The Eight Bells is for you.
This a real ale pub with no food. Hardly any younger people drink there. Currently the pub is open 12 till 2pm then 5pm onwards. Would be better if open between 2 and 5pm while any sunshine is in attendance out in the back courtyard, talking of which could do with a good tidy up!
Lovely little pub, friendly service!
What a wonderful pub. Great atmosphere generated by the friendly landlord and barman. We were only visiting for the weekend and liked it so much in there, we went back a second night
Lovely pub, great landlord, steeped in history which the landlord told us about, great selection of beers, nice patio garden with shelter n heaters for smokers, lovely atmosphere would recommend
Lovely little pub with a warm welcome, plenty of period features and good range of ales. The pub's carpet is very clean and has a great classic pub patters. If you get a chance try to sit in the little nook. The fire is a inter war classic design with exposed brick work. Toilets: unflashy and clean.
