Perfect trail! If you like rambling mountain creeks, snow capped mountains, wildflowers and summer sunshine on your face then Gold Mint Trail is your JAM!
Great hike, first 5 miles are relatively flat. Gorgeous views.
Absolutely stunning. Don't miss this trail in September when the Aspens turn!
Yes, middle part of trail is muddy and overgrown and easy to wander onto sidetrails that eventually meet back up.... But if you go all way past the hut to Lakes, it's a pretty special place!
Nice and manageable gradient on the trail, so the hike isn't all that strenuous up to the 3 mile marker. A lot of fun with some nice views of the valley.
Weather cooperated with a cooling breeze. Always a great hike but what a disappointment to find that the beaver pond had been drained.
Cool, easier walk in the valley. Very thick brush on either side. Followed the river, beautiful. Views on every turn.
One of my favorite camping spots in the state

Quick Facts About Gold Mint Trailhead

Gold Mint Trailhead has several strengths that make it a popular destination for hikers and campers. Firstly, the trail offers breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, rambling mountain creeks, and wildflowers. This natural beauty makes it an attractive choice for those looking to immerse themselves in the scenic outdoors and enjoy the summer sunshine.
In terms of the hike itself, the first 5 miles of the trail are relatively flat, making it an accessible option for hikers of various fitness levels. The manageable gradient ensures that the hike is not too strenuous up to the 3-mile marker, providing an enjoyable experience for all.
Furthermore, the trail is said to be absolutely stunning in September when the Aspens turn, adding vibrant colors to the scenery. This is a significant strength as it offers hikers the opportunity to witness the changing seasons and experience the beauty of fall.
For those seeking a more unique and special experience, venturing further along the trail past the hut to the lakes is highly recommended. While the middle part of the trail may be muddy and overgrown, it adds an element of adventure and discovery. Additionally, there are several sidetrails that eventually meet back up, providing hikers with the chance to explore different paths and extend their journey.
Another strength of Gold Mint Trailhead is the camping opportunities it offers. According to one comment, it is mentioned as one of their favorite camping spots in the state. This suggests that the trail provides a suitable and enjoyable environment for campers, with potential campgrounds and facilities available for overnight stays.
However, like any destination, Gold Mint Trailhead also has its weaknesses. One comment mentions that the beaver pond had been drained, leading to a disappointment. This indicates that there may be unpredictable changes in the environment or attractions along the trail, which could potentially affect visitors' experiences.
Additionally, a comment suggests that the trail is surrounded by thick brush on either side, which could be seen as a weakness by some. This may pose challenges such as limited visibility or the presence of insects or wildlife that hikers need to be aware of. It may also make certain sections of the trail less enjoyable for those who prefer more open and expansive views.
It is worth noting that some individuals may find the trail less appealing during the middle part, as it can be muddy, overgrown, and has the potential to lead hikers onto sidetrails. While this adds a sense of adventure, it may not be suitable for those looking for a well-maintained and clear path.
In conclusion, Gold Mint Trailhead possesses several strengths that make it an appealing destination for hikers and campers. The stunning natural beauty, manageable gradient, and the opportunity to witness the fall colors of the Aspens are all major strengths of the trail. Furthermore, the option to extend the hike by exploring sidetrails and reaching the lakes adds uniqueness to the experience. However, weaknesses such as changes in the environment and attractions, the presence of thick brush, and muddy and overgrown sections of the trail should be considered when planning a visit. Overall, Gold Mint Trailhead offers a diverse and enjoyable experience for outdoor enthusiasts seeking to explore the beautiful surroundings.
