There are a lot of African hair braiding salons in Jersey city, this one is the worse ever. If you care about your hair, do yourself a favor and Don't go here because they clearly could care less. I have fine thin hair, these people used 5 packs of jumbo braiding hair and added it to very small sections of my hair. I could feel it ripping out of my scalp due to the weight of it. I had to take them out within 3 days. They seemingly charge you what they want. Three other people were there and had much more hair than I did and were charged, $140 with hair included. I was charged $160.00 bringing my own hair. No logical explanation was provided just attitude.
Go somewhere else it's not worth the hair loss or aggravation.
I got crochet braid patterns done here. I gave them a picture. And I verbatim told the braider. It doesnt have to be exact but i want the braids straight back in the front and across in the back because im doing a crochet style. Whn I got home I realized the braids were done too big. And when I politely called the next morning the owner refused to hear my complaint and blamed me. The darker hair pic is me...why the if somebody tell you they doing a crochet would you make the braids that big. I never said do the picture EXACT! it was just around what i wanted I try with black people I do...but she obviously hate herself...im trying to find someone PROFESSIONAL, that knows hair to do my protective styles if you see this review please help
All I can say is this was my worst braiding experience. I was bullied to pay $60 for regular box braids on my natural hair after an agreement was made over the phone for $35. She denied the fact that I called. Never going back….rubbish
Literally the worst!! Horrible service mediocre at everything, they will break your strands, rip your edges, send you home with a very mediocre hair do and a headache cus it’s so tight, your head will hurt for a whole week! Stay away from this place, it’s not worth it. I saw all the horrible reviews on google and yelp before going and decided to give it a chance but after my experience here, my advice, listen to the reviews..
Very polite and Repectful. Great work braiding hair and commendate customer ????????
After coming here a few times and being dissatisfied with my appointments I had to right a review. Frances African Hair Braiding is the fast food of hair braiding. No care, no attention, no communication.
First, they don’t listen. I’ve seen 3 different women in this salon and they’ve all have gotten my braids/twist backs wrong. It’s like they only know one style...
Second, they are disorganized. You walk into the spot after calling and confirming an available time slot and there’s mass confusion. Seems nobody knows who’s next.
Third, they are not gentle with their clients hair!!! Pulling, ripping, hair out then tying it down so tight it’s absolutely unacceptable. They don’t take their time with any of their clients hair. They’re maybe good stylist there but they lack customer care greatly.
Fourth, the establishment is dirty. Specifically that couch. I rather stand outside in the rain than sit on that couch.
Do not go here if you want a go to salon. I can’t recommend this place to anyone.
First time going Katie did a wonderful job on my hair thank you Frances for being so kind you and Katie made my experience very pleasant enjoyed watching movies too see y’all soon
Called for an appointment was told they could accommodate me at 1pm, arrived and was told I would have to wait a little bit, she begins to start braiding another woman’s hair. Two hours later my hair is getting dryer and dryer (they said they could blow dry my wet hair before doing the braids so I didn’t blow dry it at home so as not to be late to the appointment), I ask if the girl who has just finished doing a guys braids can blow dry my hair, I was told no that she could not stop doing what she was going to help me and I should blow dry my hair myself. All in all a horrible experience. Maybe don’t book two ppl at the same time or just be very clear about the timeframe.

Quick Facts About Frances African Hair Braiding

Frances African Hair Braiding has received mixed feedback from customers, with both positive and negative aspects being highlighted in the comments. In order to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the salon, it is important to consider these comments in detail.
Starting with the strengths, one customer compliments the staff for being polite and respectful. This indicates that the salon values customer service and treats their clients with courtesy. Additionally, another customer expresses satisfaction with the actual braiding work, stating that their hair was braided well. This suggests that the salon has skilled braiders who are capable of delivering quality hairstyles.
However, the weaknesses of Frances African Hair Braiding, as pointed out by multiple customers, outweigh these strengths. One common complaint is the lack of attention and care given to the customers' hair. Several reviews mention hair being pulled, ripped, and even breaking due to the rough handling by the braiders. This raises concerns about the salon's professionalism and ability to maintain the health and integrity of their clients' hair.
Another weakness highlighted by customers is the salon's lack of organization. There are multiple reports of confusion and disarray upon arrival, with customers being unsure of who is next in line or having to wait longer than expected. This suggests a lack of efficient scheduling and customer management, which can lead to frustration and dissatisfaction.
Furthermore, the issue of pricing and inconsistency in charges is mentioned in a review. One customer claims to have been charged more than others with similar hair lengths, and no explanation or justification was provided by the salon. This inconsistency in pricing can leave customers feeling taken advantage of and raises concerns about transparency and fairness in the salon's practices.
In terms of communication, customers have raised concerns about the salon not listening to their requests or not understanding their desired styles. One customer mentioned multiple braiders getting the style wrong, indicating a lack of attention to detail and the salon's inability to cater to specific customer preferences. This can lead to disappointment and dissatisfaction with the final results.
Hygiene is another weakness pointed out by a customer who found the establishment to be dirty, specifically mentioning a couch. Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is crucial for any salon, as it directly impacts the customers' perception of the establishment and their overall experience.
Lastly, a customer shares a negative experience related to time management and communication. They were made to wait for an extended period and were denied a blow-dry service, despite their hair becoming dry while waiting. This shows a lack of consideration for customer appointments and a failure to effectively communicate and manage expectations regarding timeframes.
In conclusion, while Frances African Hair Braiding receives praise for its polite staff and the quality of braiding work, the weaknesses highlighted in the comments indicate significant areas for improvement. These weaknesses include rough handling of hair, disorganization, inconsistency in pricing, poor communication, lack of attention to detail, cleanliness issues, and poor time management. Addressing these weaknesses will be crucial for the salon to provide a better overall experience for its customers and improve its reputation.
