Classic place to have a few drinks. I came here back in 2013 on a business trip and decided to go here with a group of lads. Was a good laugh and plenty of banter was made with the locals. They had a huge shots blackboard with a lot of different shots to try and all for good prices
Cozy little place. Upstairs through the obscure door. Live football and live music. Found the pool table and another service counter upstairs.
Good place to watch football, big TV, but just cash no card, I don't like that.
CASH ONLY!!
Given the volume of tourists they must get, I found it aggravating that one only learns of their "cash only" policy at the time you try to make payment. No signs and no heads up from the waitress.
I expect they make a handsome profit from their exchange rate. Thus qualifying the place as a tourist trap.
Лучше места не нашли в городе. Выбор разливного пива мог бы быть и больше.

Quick Facts About Captain Flints

Captain Flint's pub in Lerwick, Shetland's is a popular and traditional Scottish pub that attracts locals and tourists alike. It has several strengths that make it a great place to visit, including its authentic atmosphere, friendly and lively crowd, and a wide selection of drinks. However, it also has some weaknesses, such as its cash-only policy and limited choice of draft beers.
One of the main strengths of Captain Flint's is its authentic and cozy Scottish pub atmosphere. It is described as "super toller und uriger," which translates to "great and quaint." This means that visitors can experience the true essence of Scottish pub culture, with its warm and welcoming ambiance. This, coupled with the opportunity to engage in conversation with the locals, creates a unique and enjoyable experience for visitors.
The pub is also praised for its friendly and lively crowd. Visitors mention that they immediately strike up conversations with the Scots and enjoy a few drinks together. This adds to the social aspect of the pub and makes it a place where visitors can have a good time and create memorable experiences.
Furthermore, Captain Flint's is known for its wide selection of shots, which are listed on a blackboard. This provides visitors with a chance to try different shots at affordable prices, adding to the fun and enjoyment of their visit. The availability of live football and live music is also mentioned as a positive aspect, as it adds to the entertainment value of the pub.
However, there are also some weaknesses that should be taken into consideration. One key weakness is the pub's cash-only policy. Several visitors mentioned their frustration at only finding out about this policy when it was time to make payment. This lack of signage or prior notice can be inconvenient for tourists who may not have enough cash on hand or prefer to use cards for payment. Additionally, the mention of a potential exchange rate profit suggests that the pub may take advantage of tourists, qualifying it as a tourist trap.
Another weakness mentioned is the limited choice of draft beers. One visitor mentioned that the selection could be expanded, which suggests that Captain Flint's may not fully cater to the preferences of all beer enthusiasts. This limitation could potentially disappoint customers who are looking for a wider variety of options.
In conclusion, Captain Flint's pub in Lerwick, Shetland's has strengths such as its authentic atmosphere and the opportunity to interact with locals. Additionally, its wide selection of shots and entertainment options contribute to the enjoyable experience. However, its cash-only policy and limited choice of draft beers are weaknesses that may inconvenience some customers. Despite these weaknesses, Captain Flint's remains a popular and recommended destination for those looking to experience a traditional Scottish pub.
