I have been going to VSL for about 2 1/2 years and have been going to the same amazing stylist who I’ve always had the best haircuts. She cuts my hair exactly like I ask, and I go for eyebrow threading too and that lady is very kind and friendly as well. The prices are so reasonable being in Dupont, and the staff are friendly and all mostly bilingual which is great. I would recommend for someone who asks for pretty standard/semi advanced haircuts to be done for a decent price and pleasant experience.
The 2 stylists that I have gone to there didn’t listen and both cut my hair too short. I have been going to VSL Hair Design for the past 5 years and kept seeing the same stylist. I tried to grow out my hair from a short bob to a long one but she kept cutting it short. I waited 4 months to get a haircut and told the stylist I saw yesterday to just cut 1/2 inch off. I showed her a photo of what I wanted but she didn’t pay attention. She talked about wedding the whole time and then proceeded to cut 4 inches off my hair. She didn’t ask me once if she was cutting too much off. The prices are now $55 for a haircut which is way too high for the bad service. I will be going to a different salon in the future as I think the stylists at VSL aren’t worth the money and don’t listen.
As a licensed hair stylist myself there is only 1 person I will let touch my hair unless he is not available and that is Andy Cao. He has been at VSL for many years and is a staple stylist in my opinion in the DuPont area. He knows exactly the cut to frame your face and Is the. DaVinci of hair color and highlights. He treats his craft as an art not just a business.
Go see him and tell him his long time client and friend Holly sent you! Victoria doesn’t have nothing on Andy and his secret to looking beautiful. And once you visit him you will then understand what his secret is.

Sadly, my long-time barber just retired! I'm not sure I'll continue going here. The price is higher and the barber isn't as good. Apparently my previous barber was trimming my beard without charging me. But the haircut I just got was good, even though the barber banged my head a lot.
The cons: terrible haircut. It’s been a few weeks and my hair is choppy, I asked for layers and his half of my hair in one length and the rest was just left as it was. It looks bad and I will need to seek a new stylist to help fix it.
The pros: really nice staff and stylist. Honestly, they were very kind and pleasant. Easy to book.
Excellent haircut and blow dry service. The shop is organized, clean and the staff is pleasant. Prices are much lower compared to what nearby hair salons on the same block are charging and in relative to the outrageous property rentals in this highly sought after neighborhood. You can’t complain. Highly recommended.
They burnt my hair w hairdryer.
They left my hair frizzy and damaged.
I asked for a manager and was told no one on site to respond.

Poor customer service they did not offer to assist or correct the damage.
I've been coming here for years. I'm always happy with the result, and the price is better than anywhere else I've found in DC. All of the stylists and staff and warm and welcoming. I'll definitely keep coming back!
