We took our shih tzu Buddy to Southern Styles Pet Salon in Hendersonville for a grooming today. Buddy is 15 years old and so so sweet. But he struggles badly with nerves. Which is why his last groomer wouldn’t work with him any more :(. Even knowing all of that, our groomer Stephanie, being the experienced super awesome veteran in grooming that she is, did a fantastic and amazing job with him! She got him looking so cute, that my 7 yo daughter won’t leave him alone! She keeps saying “I can’t believe I get to live with a dog this cute”! Lol. Thank you to Stephanie and Southern Styles Pet Salon for being patient with our old man and helping him get the cut he deserved! So so happy with the results! And that we get to come back! I highly recommend them! Thank you!
I explained when I made our first appointment and again when we arrived how my dog had a traumatic event while getting his nails trimmed at the vet. I even tried some calming meds to help. The staff said they would be glad to work with us to help take care of him, and we discussed a plan for next visit but when I tried to make a second appointment was told to take my business elsewhere. So much for being willing to work with a pet and owner.!
My dog Copper and I just had an awesome, albeit brief, last minute experience with Southern Styles. I can't tell you how incredibly accommodating and gracious they were. Highly recommend! A+
They sent a message advising me of dog flu issues. When I tried to move my appointment so I could ensure my dog was vaccinated appropriately they said there was a $35 change fee even with 24 hours notice. They have had a change in groomers and the service has declined. I am going elsewhere.
I’ve been bringing my dog here for about 5 years. These groomers go above and beyond for my dog who is terrified of nail trimmings. Other groomers have turned her away, saying her behavior doesn’t allow them to trim her nails. But on our very first appointment at Southern Styles, they saw she was in distress and had one groomer hold her and pat her head to distract her while the other trimmed her nails. Extra care like this in the early days has led to her feeling so comfortable with them, that they can trim her nails no problem at this point. No other groomer in my area would even attempt to work with her, and Southern Styles managed to make her feel calm and comfortable all these years later. They really are special groomers!
You can tell these groomers love pets! I've had Elizabeth groom my Cavapoo and she does an excellent job. I've seen Misty's grooming too and she is wonderful with dogs. They do a good trimming and filling toe nails too. Highly recommended
I made a call to this pet salon checking on prices for a wash, dry, cut for my 8 pound dog. My dog has thin hair. I was quoted a price that seemed high to me. I asked if that would include trimming her nails that was an additional 5$ charge. My next question was could the appointment be made and me wait in the lobby until she was done. The response received was that I would have to wait in my car. When I figured in a 5$ tip I would be spending 70+$. That is more than a woman on a fixed income should have to
spend. The take it or leave it attitude made me have a leave it and hunt for someplace else attitude.
I hope someone else has enough money and finds this place reasonable for their budget.
I drove 30 minutes to get there. They told me over the phone before I left that because my dog is 3 months old that they would only do a facial, rear, and paw cut and then check his nails. I was good with that. I really just wanted his facial and nails originally. When I got there they told me that they were going to shave his whole body. They said his hair was matted at the skin. This is a 3 month old puppy. His hair is not an issue. It looks good and he is not in any discomfort. I told them that they said over the phone, due to his young age, that they would only due facial, rear, and paws. I said I don't want him shaved. They said that they couldn't let him leave without shaving him. I said B.S., you are not shaving my dog! I said give him to me and cancel this appointment.
Thanks for wasting my time and gas!

Quick Facts About Southern Styles Pet Salon

Southern Styles Pet Salon has several strengths that have been highlighted in the comments provided. Firstly, the salon is commended for their experienced and skilled groomers. Stephanie is specifically mentioned as being a fantastic and amazing groomer who did an excellent job with a nervous 15-year-old dog. This demonstrates that the salon has experienced staff who are capable of handling difficult pets and producing satisfactory results.
Furthermore, the staff at Southern Styles Pet Salon are praised for their patience and understanding. Despite the dog's nervousness, Stephanie and the rest of the staff were able to create a calm and comfortable environment for the pet. This is an important strength, as working with nervous pets requires additional skill and care.
Another strength of Southern Styles Pet Salon is their willingness to accommodate last-minute appointments. This is highlighted by a customer who had an awesome experience with the salon when needing a quick grooming session for their dog, Copper. The accommodating and gracious nature of the staff demonstrates their commitment to customer satisfaction.
Additionally, the comment about the groomers going above and beyond for a pet who is terrified of nail trimmings showcases the salon's dedication to providing personalized care. The groomers at Southern Styles Pet Salon were able to make the pet feel calm and comfortable, which allowed them to perform nail trims successfully. This personalized care is a considerable strength, especially for pets with special needs.
Furthermore, the love and dedication the groomers at Southern Styles Pet Salon have for pets is noted in one of the comments. This indicates that the salon has staff who genuinely care for animals, resulting in a positive and compassionate environment for pets during their grooming appointments.
However, the comments also highlight a few weaknesses. One customer had a negative experience when trying to make a second appointment and was told to take their business elsewhere. This suggests a lack of willingness to work with the customer and their pet, which is contradictory to the positive experiences shared by other customers regarding accommodating nature.
Another comment mentions a change in groomers and a decline in service quality. This is concerning as consistent service quality is vital for maintaining customer loyalty. If there has been a decline in service due to changes in groomers, it can negatively impact the salon's reputation.
Additionally, a potential weakness highlighted is the salon's pricing and their lack of flexibility regarding appointments. One customer found the quoted price for their dog's grooming to be high, and the salon was not willing to allow them to wait in the lobby during the appointment. This customer felt excluded due to the costs and the location's policies. This suggests that the salon may not be accessible to all customers, particularly those on fixed incomes or with limited budgets.
Lastly, there was a complaint about miscommunication regarding the services to be performed on a puppy. The salon initially agreed to only do a specific cut but later insisted on shaving the whole body. This miscommunication and lack of flexibility led to a frustrated customer, indicating a potential weakness in maintaining clear and consistent communication with customers.
In conclusion, Southern Styles Pet Salon has several strengths, including experienced and skilled groomers, patience and understanding towards nervous pets, accommodation for last-minute appointments, personalized care for pets with special needs, and a staff that genuinely loves pets. However, weaknesses are also apparent, such as a lack of willingness to work with customers, potential decline in service quality due to a change in groomers, high pricing and inflexibility with appointments, and miscommunication with customers. These weaknesses should be addressed by the salon to ensure they can provide the best possible grooming experience for all customers and their pets.
