Quick Facts About Pontnewydd Fish Bar

Pontnewydd Fish Bar has received mostly positive comments from customers, highlighting its strengths. The staff are consistently praised for being polite, friendly, and able to maintain a sense of humor even during busy periods. This creates a pleasant atmosphere and positive customer service experience, which is a significant strength for the establishment. Additionally, the portion sizes for chips are described as "humongous," giving customers good value for their money. The fish bar is widely regarded as the best chippy in Cwmbran and offers excellent value for money.
The quality of the food itself is highly praised, with comments emphasizing the delicious taste and lack of soggy chips. Customers specifically mention the crispy bits in the chips, which is seen as a huge plus. The sausage, chips, and Irish curry sauce are highlighted as particular favorites. These positive comments about the food indicate that Pontnewydd Fish Bar excels in providing tasty, well-prepared meals.
However, there are a few weaknesses that emerge from the comments. One recurring complaint is the lack of seating inside the establishment, preventing customers from eating their food on-site. This may be a disappointment for those who prefer to sit down and enjoy their meal immediately. Another weakness mentioned is the difficulty in finding parking nearby, which can cause inconvenience and frustration for customers. Although this issue does not significantly impact the overall rating, it is worth considering for customers who prefer quick and convenient service.
There is also a comment about the fish bar being pricey, particularly for those who are not from the area. This suggests that the prices may be higher compared to other chip shops or local competition. The customer had a negative experience with the billing process, feeling overcharged and suspecting discrimination due to being a non-local. While this is an isolated comment, it raises concerns about the establishment's integrity and fairness in pricing.
It is essential for Pontnewydd Fish Bar to address these weaknesses to maintain customer satisfaction and continue to be regarded as the best chip shop in Wales. The lack of seating can be addressed by exploring options for customers to dine in, whether through expanding the premises or creating an outdoor seating area. Additionally, the establishment should work on improving the parking situation, such as seeking alternative parking solutions or providing clear instructions to customers.
Regarding pricing, it is essential to ensure transparency and fairness. Clear signage displaying prices and any additional charges should be in place, ensuring customers are not surprised or confused. Proper training for staff in accurate billing and charging processes is necessary to avoid customer dissatisfaction and suspicions of discrimination. By addressing these weaknesses, Pontnewydd Fish Bar can further enhance its reputation and continue to provide excellent service to its customers.

Staff are always polite and friendly. Have a laugh with customers no matter how busy it is. The portion sizes for chips are humongous. Best chippy in cwmbran and definitely best value for money
Great chips! Not much more to say - we all know what to expect from a good chippy. This one surpassed expectations.
The food is absolutely delicious but the only fault I have with it is you can't eat in the place.
Really enjoyed the sausage, chips and Irish curry sauce here. Loads of crispy bits in with the chips too - Huge plus! No soggy chips either!
It's a shame that it's pretty impossible to park here. My girlfriend had to do a few laps while I waited to be served. Not enough to give any less a rating though. Will be back for sure!
Always lovely chips from here. Never had a bad portion and it's rated on the top 50 chip shops in the UK.
Chippy tea as we were too busy to cook. Very nice !
Best chips shop in Wales. Always a queue out the door.
Ok, for real. Yes it is pricey. Well for me anyway seems as I'm not from the area. Get this, first I asked how much small chips were as it said 2.50 on the board and I'm thinking thats high for a cone, she said 2 quid, now I had small chips with curry sauce on top.. she charged me 4.20 ?? Then I ordered another with a battered sausage which was 1.30. So she then billed may card for 10.70. Even with the ridiculous 2.20 for curry sauce. The bill should of been 9.70. I literally felt she done it on purpose because I'm not a local. Just cant let it go. This was 10.3.22
