Its an awesome and beautiful spot. There is a warm pool near a waterfall. Its very easy access from the road, which means its not at all private. We were there on a pleasant Sunday afternoon and I wouldn't call it crowded, but definitely not private. Great place with little kids.
The beautiful drive was worth it but the dam was so interesting. Lot of really intricate formations and it was gushing due to the high water level. The smell of sulfur was fairly mild but maybe that's also because of the recent rains causing a high water level? My dog liked it too!
Such a cool gem off the side of the road driving through the Jemez. I highly recommend stopping, there is a decent amount of parking on the side of the road so multiple cars can stop. Make sure you go up into the little cave if possible. There is pooled water and sediment structures that are just so interesting. Beautiful spot to quickly stop.
Interesting place to explore. Lots of geology formed by sulphuric water. Otherwise not a lot to see. There were flash flood warnings in effect when we were there, and indeed it rained steadily (with lightening and thunder) the entire time we were there.
Cool road side stop while headed to the hot springs. The kids loved it. Easy to get to. No parking lot, just pull over on the shoulder and walk down. Free.
This place is a must stop! On Thursday we stopped by and could have spent an hour here just relaxing. There was a nice breeze, nice views. We viewed the Soda Dam from the bottom and then climbed to the top. The Sulphur smell was pretty bad but the views made up for it.
Soo cool to stop and see this right next to the road!
Pretty neat formation of natural mineral deposits. Not much to see, but it is beautiful in person.
