Went Newark to visit the artisan Market, and saw this pub on the corner, went in for a Sunday carvery, staff friendly, good was good and great value for money, £6.95 for adult £3.95 child. I looked at the menu and the rest of food was very good value. Will be back again when in Newark.
Friendly down to earth bar. Came in the evening just for drinks, not to eat. Reasonable prices, lively, and security on the door who are also friendly and do their job well. There is an outside space for smokers though it does get packed when it is busier.
Really good family run pub and food is amazing....????????????
Changed its name to the Duck.
Historic building made a bit bland when being done up.
Excellent food & service. Friendly staff and no noisy speaker system at lunchtime. Obviously keeps it s regulars but welcoming the travellers.
Beautiful old building full of character and history-refurbished beautifully inside with a lot of love and affection-a family run business who are both warm and welcoming and a pleasant atmosphere to eat drink and enjoy ????

Shudder.. A little intimidating and 'a local pub for local people' vibe. Not unfriendly just, you know.. A quick drink before heading off to get something to eat.

Quick Facts About Belam's Bar & Bistro

Belam's Bar & Bistro, located in Newark, has received a mix of positive and negative comments. In order to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the establishment, it is important to consider the different aspects mentioned by customers.
Starting with the strengths, several customers have highlighted the friendly staff at Belam's Bar & Bistro. This positive aspect creates a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere for visitors. Additionally, the staff provide good service, particularly when it comes to the Sunday carvery. The food is described as excellent and amazing by multiple reviewers, indicating a high standard in terms of taste and quality. Moreover, the prices are considered reasonable and great value for money, with the Sunday carvery priced at £6.95 for adults and £3.95 for children. This affordability is likely to attract customers, as it offers good value for the dining experience.
Furthermore, it is mentioned that Belam's Bar & Bistro is a family-run pub. This aspect contributes to a warm and welcoming atmosphere, allowing customers to feel comfortable and well taken care of. The old and historic building adds to the character of the establishment and creates an interesting environment for customers to enjoy their meals or drinks. Some customers appreciate the effort put into refurbishing the interior, describing it as beautiful and full of love and affection. This attention to detail enhances the overall experience for customers, as they are surrounded by a visually appealing setting.
Moving on to the weaknesses mentioned, one customer criticizes the cleanliness of the tables, stating that they were greasy. This cleanliness issue can be off-putting for customers and may need to be addressed to maintain a positive dining experience. Additionally, the menu is described as basic, which some customers expect from a town center pub. While this may not be a major issue, offering a more diverse and exciting menu could attract a wider range of customers and enhance the overall dining experience.
Another weakness mentioned is the loud music from the TV. This can be a nuisance for customers who prefer a quieter environment in which to socialize or enjoy their meals. Adjusting the volume or providing designated areas for those seeking a quieter experience could improve customer satisfaction.
There are also remarks regarding the pub's name change to "The Duck." While this may not directly affect the quality of the establishment or its services, it is worth mentioning as it indicates a potential lack of consistency or confusion for customers who may still associate the old name, Belam's Bar & Bistro, with the establishment. Additionally, one customer mentions a slight blandness in the building's appearance after being refurbished. While this is subjective, it raises a point worth considering, as the ambiance and aesthetic appeal can greatly impact the overall experience for customers.
Lastly, a comment is made about an intimidating and "local pub for local people" vibe. Although it is mentioned that the atmosphere is not unfriendly, it implies that the pub might not feel as welcoming to outsiders or those who are unfamiliar with the local community. This could be a potential drawback when trying to attract a diverse customer base.
In conclusion, Belam's Bar & Bistro in Newark has various strengths and weaknesses. The friendly staff, excellent food, reasonable prices, and family-run nature of the establishment are all significant strengths that contribute to a pleasant dining experience. On the other hand, issues with cleanliness, a basic menu, loud TV music, a name change, potential blandness after refurbishment, and an intimidating vibe for non-locals are weaknesses that could be improved upon. By addressing these weaknesses and further enhancing its strengths, Belam's Bar & Bistro can continue to attract and satisfy a wide range of customers.
