Nicht so Party überlaufen
Highly regarded by CAMRA, I found this real ale pub in the heart of Chesterfield to be disappointing, at least upon my visit in mid-October. None of the real ales was available, the only cask beer was "London Pride" - and that one turned out to be oxidized (It was taken off after I complained about it). Other than that it's certainly a nice traditional pub: spacious, with pleasingly comfortable décor, and friendly staff. Shame about the beer though.
Great rustic feel pub, lovely people and their dogs are adorable!!
We were there twice on boxing day with family and the atmosphere is just so nice.
They also have wood burning fireplace too, just an all round nice pub.. Enjoyed a few singing along moments to the music and there was a dj later on when we returned in the evening.
Definitely worth more than one visit ????????????
Welcoming atmosphere, New owners have created a great dog friendly place. That occasionally has live bands in. Reasonable pricing for drinks. Would recommend a try.
I used to love this pub when I lived in Chesterfield before leaving 4vyears ago.
Went back on Friday, really looking forward to the warm cozy buzz that I remembered only to find that the character had somehow disappeared.
Service was fine and there was a log fire too but it was almost empty when we went in at 9 oclock, and very few others came in. A victim of the pandemic perhaps?
Ancient edifice shining in the midst of modern buildings
Excellent great food friendly staff good service
Love this pub but unfortunately don't get to visit it as much as I would like, good food and drinks for a reasonable price.

Quick Facts About The Rutland Chesterfield

The Rutland Chesterfield Place has both strengths and weaknesses, as highlighted in the comments provided. In terms of strengths, the pub has a great rustic feel and a welcoming atmosphere. The décor is described as pleasingly comfortable, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The pub is also dog-friendly, which is a bonus for pet owners. Many commenters appreciate the live bands that occasionally perform at the pub, as well as the wood-burning fireplace, which adds to the cozy ambiance. Additionally, the pub is highly regarded by CAMRA, indicating its previous reputation for offering a good selection of real ales.
However, there are also weaknesses that have been pointed out by some of the commenters. One recurring complaint is the lack of availability of real ales. In one instance, none of the real ales were available, and in another, the only cask beer that was offered was found to be oxidized. This inconsistency with the real ale selection could be seen as a disappointment for beer enthusiasts. Another negative aspect mentioned is the decrease in character and buzz compared to previous experiences. One commenter mentioned that the pub was almost empty when they visited, suggesting that it may have been affected by the pandemic. This lack of customers and ambiance could lead to a less enjoyable experience for some patrons.
Despite these weaknesses, the Rutland Chesterfield Place has received positive comments regarding its food and drink offerings. The pub is praised for serving great food, and the staff is described as friendly, providing good service. The pricing of drinks is also mentioned as reasonable, which makes the pub more accessible to a wider audience.
Overall, the Rutland Chesterfield Place offers a mix of strengths and weaknesses. Its welcoming atmosphere, dog-friendly policy, and occasional live music make it an appealing destination for some patrons. However, the inconsistent availability and quality of real ales, as well as a potential decrease in character and footfall, may be seen as drawbacks for others. The pub's positive aspects, such as its comfortable décor and reasonable pricing, also contribute to its appeal. Ultimately, the experience at the Rutland Chesterfield Place may vary depending on individual preferences and expectations.
