The best things in life are free!! Check out the Gilman tunnels/ trail. I don't know how to add a video but it was spectacular a must see. If you love exploring ♥️ ✨️ lots too see!! Watch out for falling Rocks ???? there are a few large rocks on the road currently.
It's a really nice hike if you park at the bridge and walk all the way back. But you can drive all the way to the end and then walk back through the tunnels. As far as the river goes I guess you could do some white River kayaking, but no swimming in the area. The falls are really rough. There's a lot of beautiful scenery though around so make sure to get out and look at everything especially the Red rocks.
This was amazing fun! It was so amazing to see the tunnels and how they were made! Also enjoyed seeing the stream of water below! If this was in any National Park, there would be cars lined up all over the place! A nice quiet gem for now !
Finding these tunnels was a pleasant surprise! As you get closer to the tunnels, the road becomes a bit scary because it's made for one car at a time, but there are plenty of places to pull to the side. We had the road to ourselves 99% of the time. It was amazing seeing the roaring Jemez River as it flowed between the canyon. We will definitely be back!
Really easy to get to and some good places to park. The roads are narrow but you can easily get around each other. It’s a hidden gem I barely ever pass a handful of people in the couple hours we spend there!!
It is a beautiful spot and so calming with the sound of the breeze and the running water from the stream below. Some graffiti has marred the beauty and there was a fair amount of litter and no gatbage receptacle in sight, but I still had a great time and got lots of photos. Most of the road jas also been repaved, making it much smoother. Beware of the larger pits in the road between and after the tunnels, and the narrow lane that only allows one vehicle. Courtesy counts!
Once again, NM surprises me! Second time here, but spent longer walking around and really getting a feel for the spot. Great place to take a break while driving thru Jemez. A definite stop
A few locals told us to find this site, and we are glad we did! It was a bit off the beaten path, and we weren't sure where we were going, but a wonderful stop.
Fun to dive through and walk through the tunnels.
