Came on a coach tour. The hotel is tired. The rooms are clean enough but in need of a spruce up. Light above bed flickering as unit faulty - lamp holders broken away from fitment, had to remove bulbs to avoid strobe lighting. Informed staff on arrival nothing happened to rectify it. Considering a coach party, of 50, in disappointed they shut the bar a 8.30pm each night. Food good. Entertainment failed to appear.
Overall not too bad for what we paid but details need attending to. Good location though.
This hotel has had some awful reviews, the only problem we had was, it was advertised as having a lift to all floors. The lift just goes to the 1st floor, but a very nice member of staff carried our bags up. The hotel is clean and very well run, the food is delicious, fresh , home cooked and varied. You don't book 2 star and expect 5 star, but we got 5 star treatment from the staff, and the overall stay was excellent.
Stayed 1 night with my dog, whilst walking the IoW Coastal Path. The room was clean, quiet & comfortable. The Hotel felt very 1980s & had a coach party staying. My beef is that despite being told it was dog friendly, there was an extra & unexpected £30 fee for the dog & then we couldn't use any communal areas. ☹️ I was also charged £100 for a deposit ????‍♂️ that was promised to be repaid in 3 days. But 3 weeks later, I am still chasing for the return of my deposit. Not good.
After reading previous reviews I was sceptical about staying at the Channel View Hotel. At first glance the hotel does need some refurbishment but the cleanliness of the hotel and rooms was extreme good.
As someone who stayed in hotels mostly Holiday Inn / Marriot weekly for many years I have never encountered such welcoming and enthusiastic staff. Nothing was too much trouble.
The food was also of a high quality and I'm guessing (I'm no chef) was home cooked.
I would return to the Channel View again, without a doubt.
I booked without checking the reviews for one night in July 2022. I was dubious once I read the reviews but as I only paid £38 for a night, I tried it. First impressions were not great, no key had been left for me, so I phoned the given number as reception was closed. No one answered until the second ring. Was told quite rudely that I was at the wrong hotel, when I insisted I was not and confirmed my booking, I was told to wait a minute and someone would be with me. Ten minutes later a woman and a young child eventually appeared, I was checked in and as I was getting settled into my room, I was interrupted so towels could be delivered. Not overly impressed with the check in process or the room not being ready for my arrival as I arrived at the said time. The room itself was basic and clean, but I was happy enough with this as it was just a base for the night. The road is fairly quiet and I barely saw anyone at the hotel during the stay. The main downside was the awful shower and very noisy bathroom fan. I wasn't expecting a lot giving the price, but a shower with some water pressure at least should be given. Cannot comment on breakfast as didn't have it but I think the kitchen/bar area was closed anyway which seemed a bit odd. Staff not the friendliest but the location is very close to the amenities of Sandown and the beach.
Location great, in walking distance to shops and beach.
Staff were absolutely lovely apart from the lady manager who was rude from the get go - not what you want when you have been travelling for 5 hours, we felt like just sleeping in the car after talking to her.
Staff directed us to our room and couldn’t help us enough, room was basic but clean, shower warm and fresh towels, not amazing but satisfactory for a cheap stay.
Small tv, kettle and tea/coffee provided and soaps.
Bar was always closed - no entertainment.
Noisy neighbours who sounded like they were drinking all night wasn’t great - this wasn’t really the hotels fault but kept us awake one of the nights.
What should you expect from the two star hotel Channel View Hotel? Hot water? Water pressure in the shower? A roof that doesnt leak? A working toilet seat? A bar that is open?A view of the Channel? If these are your in line with your expectations, I am afraid you will need to lower them.
The rooms was basic bed were very comfy plenty of tea coffee sugar milk shower was hot rooms clean food very good service excellent staff very polite enjoyed my stay would stay again
